Raucous cheering could be heard across the Orcas Island High School campus as a capacity crowd assembled in the gym to watch the Orcas Vikings take on the Friday Harbor Wolverines on Saturday, Feb. 11.

Orcas fans dressed largely in black anticipated an exciting and action-packed game. They were not disappointed. Though Orcas never fell behind Friday Harbor, the score remained close throughout most of the game. In the end, Orcas outplayed the Wolverines and defeated them 54-47.
“Sure, we beat them twice in the regular season,” coach Corey Wiscomb said. “But both were tough games, and everything starts anew in the playoffs. I’m so proud of our guys that we were able to not only maintain the extremely high quality of play, but to also improve upon it. That says to me that we aren’t done yet.”

Next up for Orcas is a game against Seattle Lutheran tomorrow, Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. at Sedro Woolley High School.  The game will be the District Championship, and the winner advances to the State Regional game for seeding into the State Tournament at the Spokane Arena.
