Jacob Wright: Featured Student

Congratulations to Jacob Wright for being named Orcas Island High School’s Student of the Month.

If you have ever seen Wright around school, you will know he is a familiar face, always balancing his many commitments. As vice-president of his class ASB, trombone player in the band, and member of the golf team, Wright is no stranger to having a full plate. When asked about how he juggles these activities, he explained, “Managing all of the various deadlines was certainly an adjustment, but it has made me a much more organized person.” This stands true, as his skills with organization have been recognized and earned him this month’s recognition.

Wright’s favorite subject is mathematics, which he says motivates him to keep up his academic success. His long-term plan is to attend the University of Washington to study civil engineering, aiming for a career in that field. When asked about this drive, he simply stated, “I’m trying to get into a good college that will give me options in the future.”

Music is a huge part of Wright’s life as well. He plays tenor trombone both for the school band and locally in an island swing group. But that is not all—when he is not busy practicing trombone or planning ASB events, Wright spends his free time volunteering at the local historical museum or working on his model railroad. Yes, you read that right—he has a model railroad.

When offering advice to other students, he said, “Be kind and be true to yourself.” Wright’s mark on the school is large. Whether he is playing trombone, handling ASB responsibilities, or working on a math problem, he does so with the same dedication. He shows this every day, and we are proud to have him in the school with us, and as a member of the Viking Voice staff.
