High School Band Performs With Renowned Group

After years of dedicated performances the Dallas Brass have come back to Orcas. Many may remember a few years back when the well-recognized brass ensemble gave performances at the school gym and the Orcas Center. They’re back touring in the Northwest, and this time their Orcas concert has incorporated our very own high school band. On the sixteenth of October, the group led a workshop with high school musicians prior to their concert.

At 7:30p.m. on October 17 at the Orcas Center, the Dallas Brass gave a concert to Orcas students and residents. The theme of the concert concerned great American music of both the past and present; patriotic to Broadway. In a performance after intermission they preformed the medley “American Tableau” with the high school band. Various members of the audience described the performance as “stunning”, “beautiful”, and “beautiful yet entertaining and comic.”

“I’m just incredibly inspired by these players,” says Devon Mann resident student trumpet player. “It was amazing working with such skilled musicians who really love what they do.The amount of love and dedication these players feel is something I want to emulate.” The entire high school band reported the experience as positive and inspiring, loving both playing the the performance and getting to watch such an amazing show.
