This season, both our Orcas Island High School soccer and volleyball team played in the district playoffs with hopes of State tournament success. The soccer team finished their regular season with a record of 13 – 2 and were second in the league, while the volleyball team went 10 – 6 and earned fourth in the district. Both teams completed and won their first district playoff games, with the soccer team beating Crosspoint on Monday 4 – 2 on penalty kicks after finishing 1 – 1 in regulation and overtime. The volleyball team handled Providence in straight sets and played their best ball during playoffs. Soccer secured the title of District Champions after defeating Providence 7 – 6 during penalty kicks, proving they have bounced back from the loss of five seniors and establishing themselves as one of the top teams in the state, heading into state playoffs. The team played their first state playoff game on Friday, Nov. 12, where they beat Puget Sound Adventist 5 – 0. Their next game will be on Nov. 19, at 8 p.m. at Sunset Chev Stadium in Sumner against Friday Harbor. The winner of the State Semifinals will advance to the championship game on Saturday, Nov. 20.
