OIHS Golf Number One In State

On May 22, 2024 the Orcas Island Boys Golf Team achieved a victory at the state championship held in Tumwater, Washington. Coached by Ryan Kennedy, the boys team showed great talent and teamwork. The 18 hole course was played over a period of two days, with a cut eliminating half the field after the first day. All three of the OIHS players scored high enough to make the first day’s cut in a highly competitive field of 60 golfers.

Their final placements were as follows: Sam Sutton in twenty-fifth, Josh Spinner with sixth, and Joe Anderson taking first place. Anderson’s performance is a testament to his hard work throughout the season.

The girls team also excelled with three players representing OIHS at the state level in a field of 40. Lili Malo achieved tenth place, Vera Sasan placed twenty-fifth, and Chloe Anderson-Cleveland finished in twenty-seventh place. All of our players performed admirably, demonstrating the Orcas Viking spirit.

Coach Kennedy holds high expectations for both the boys and girls teams in the coming years, and is confident in their potential in future tournaments. Regarding the team’s accomplishments Kennedy said, “The team win is massive, but the way our players conducted themselves and worked to improve their game, mental and physical, throughout the season is what I am most proud of. I think the win is important to show that hard work and honorable attitudes will take these players as far as they want to go.”
