Eggs. Either you love them or hate them, and it is all because of the way they are cooked. I personally like my eggs over-easy, and only over-easy, while I despise scrambled. Whether it is the texture or a slight change in taste, there is usually something to dislike about every way to cook an egg. We sent out a school wide survey asking how people like their eggs and got 42 responses, so let us see what these people had to say.
For the best way to cook an egg, people voted for scrambled in first, poached and sunny-side up, in second, and over-easy in third. Scrambled eggs are soft and easy to cook, so it makes sense that they are in first. Both poached and sunny-side up have firm whites with decently runny yolks, which can be very enjoyable. Last, but not least, over-easy gets nice and crispy on both sides and still has a runny yolk, making it my personal favorite as well as many others top choice.
Scrambled eggs actually got the most votes for the worst as well, so it is a controversial topic. It got 12 votes for best and 17 for worst. I hate scrambled eggs because they feel slimy, but I bet other people have different reasons. Plenty of people hate sunny-side up, I imagine they dislike the yolk, and there is also a lot of hate for boiled. To be fair, they are pretty bland.
There was one more question though: what is the best thing to go on eggs? The garnish is just as, if not more important, than the egg itself. Most people said salt and pepper, which is not too bad, but I really like hot sauce and nine other people who answered agree. Five of the people like ketchup, but everyone else put something different. Some of them make sense like cheese, but one has me at a loss for words.
No judgement to this person, but “A1 Steak Sauce (sounds crazy, just try it)” came out of left field. I am curious about trying it, but I want to know how you found this topping in the first place. There were a couple other weird answers for other questions too, like “lemon egg” for best and “Funfeggi (funfetti egg)” for worst. I have never heard of that before, but apparently it is a thing. There also appear to be a few egg haters at our school–that is okay, but I did find it odd that three people all had the presence of mind to put “I hate eggs” down for the same question. Eggs are hard to get right, so maybe it is just better to make your own if you are going to make them.
