Get Your Homework on with National Honor Society

Orcas Island High School’s National Honors Society (NHS) is starting a new program this year in which NHS members offer homework help to other students in the high school. The hope is that this program will provide a beneficial service to the high school community as well as enhance the role of NHS members within the school. NHS members are excited about this opportunity to help others, and are willing to provide assistance in an array of different forms and subjects. Homework help can range from editing a paper to studying for a test to working on a math lesson. NHS members are also willing to provide tips and help regarding standardized and AP test preparation. Students are welcome to reach out to NHS members in or outside of school and to make arrangements best suited to their needs. The program will run throughout the entire school year, and NHS members hope that it will encourage a supportive and collaborative learning environment within the school, and will serve as a useful tool to help students succeed in high school.

Currently, there are eleven members of NHS who are participating in the homework help program. Some NHS members have specified the particular subjects that they are most comfortable with, but all NHS members are willing to answer student questions. If an NHS member does not feel comfortable answering a student question, he or she may refer the student to a more suitable source.
